Liminal space is essentially a transition space; a space in which you’ve left something behind but are not yet entirely immersed in something else. The internet is going insane over these mesmerizing pictures of liminal space. To see it for yourself, keep scrolling…
This person uploaded a photo of their closet, which included a ceiling that was extremely high. Have you ever seen a closet with such a tall ceiling as this one before? It certainly makes you question what the contractors were thinking when they were constructing this house in the first place. Who would require such a high ceiling? Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t even require a closet of this size to be great.
Here for the Conference
It certainly makes you question what the contractors were thinking when they were building this house in the first place. Who would require such a high ceiling? Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t even need a closet of this size.
If this is the case, it is possible that this will be the person’s final professional conference before retirement. They may have been able to escape without being harmed, which is our hope…
Swim?
Empty pools are usually frightening, as you’ll see on this list. Here’s a photo of an abandoned pool that appears to be rather old. There are no sunbathers on the lounge chairs, which are dispersed throughout the area. The fishy slide, though, is the most disturbing aspect of this pool.
There was certainly a time when the slide was host to a long line of children who would slide through the fish’s mouth and into the pool. Today, on the other hand, it has been abandoned completely.
Turn Around
This seems to be a scene from the Jurassic Park III film. As they struggle to find their way out of the mist and fog, Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) discovers that they’ve landed themselves within a birdcage… designed just for pterosaurs.
Walking through this passageway was an exceedingly scary experience for one person, who even considered turning around after experiencing such a terrifying moment in the film.
The Haunting of Inside
No need to describe how unsettling this picture is because you can view it for yourself on the next page. This building screams scary from every angle, beginning with the blue staircase and ending with the old window frame.
Outside, it looks to be glowing, and while we would typically be awestruck by the colors, we can’t help but feel as if a monster is about to burst through the glass. The walls, like the stairwell, are painted blue. It looks to be the Overlook Hotel from Stephen King’s The Shining.
Déjà Vu Area
Visitors to this place are informed that this is their first visit by a sign displayed in this picture…. Then it also said that if the platform appears to be familiar, employees should be notified. We have to admit, it’s a little spooky…
When visiting a haunted house on Halloween, this is the kind of sign you’ll see on the wall. We’re curious as to if the person who posted this really boarded the platform, because we know we wouldn’t. We would leave as soon as possible!
Forest at the Parallel
This forest seems like it belongs in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. Season 1 shows a parallel universe, and we can all see the similarities. Even if they may give off a sinister vibe, all of the trees are uniformed in such a way that we can’t stop staring at them.
The eerie atmosphere of this forest is amplified by the white snow. Because this forest is almost supernatural, it’s an ideal location for a Halloween shoot if you’re costumed as anything other than a human.
Phone Booth
It’s snowing severely as you drive down the road. Your gaze is drawn to a phone booth. But this isn’t your typical phone booth. The phone booth appears to be protected by the snow that surrounds it.
To be honest, it seems like it’s a time travel booth — you know, like Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure! So, go on then, if you have to make an emergency phone call with this booth!
2020
The year 2020 seemed to us to be the start of a brand new era. We appeared to be in a more peaceful and tranquil universe, where nature could finally breathe. Humans, on the other hand, were incapable of doing so. It nearly felt as if we were in an apocalyptic world, with the roads empty and entirely silent, and the various nooks completely empty.
It’s peaceful, yet it’s also unsettling. This picture of a completely deserted highway takes us to the year 2020. What a frightening and unpredictably dangerous period it was! For many countries, it still is…
The Smile Room
This picture depicts a door leading to a dark and empty room. We can’t say for sure what’s inside, but we can guarantee it’s not pretty. Despite the fact that it’s called “The Smile Room,” we have a strange feeling you won’t be smiling when you walk in. In fact, it seems to be a room from which you will never leave unscathed.
The room has the appearance of a laboratory where cruel scientific experiments were conducted at some point in the past. It has absolutely nothing to do with the room’s title in the least.
Chairlift to the Universe of Uncertainty
A chairlift in Poland is shown here. This photo was taken roughly five years ago during a trip to Poland. But it’s so foggy that we can only see two chairlifts surrounded by fog.
We can’t see where the chairlift is heading because of the fog that has engulfed it. It’s all really strange and scary. It’s as though the chairlift is transporting you to another world where nothing is definite.
Winter Wonderland
This photo was taken on the eve of Christmas. It was a snowy and foggy night, as you can see from the photo, that many people would consider peaceful. They see it as a method to get away from the compulsion to be together.
An empty park on Christmas Eve, on the other hand, is depressing and sad. Despite the presence of Christmas lights in the park, no one is actually brightening this light.
Keep Driving
The road in this picture seems unsettling, even sinister. The trees encircle the road, giving it the appearance of a witch’s den. If you’re traveling along this road late at night, your imagination will inevitably wander to imaginative — and even frightening — places.
Just continue driving. It’s important not to take any breaks for anyone or anything since this is the kind of area that may inspire a few ideas for a horror movie.
Taco Bell
This person went out to get some tacos. They asked Google Maps for directions, and it directed them to Taco Bell. The driver continued driving till they realized it had been an hour since they had seen a car.
In the distance, there is no evidence of Taco Bell; only empty fields and roads. There is no evidence of a residential area or a natural habitat. They simply wanted tacos. Google Maps, you’re a jerk!
Stay in the Light
This place has the appearance of a graveyard. Even though there is light coming from each post, the space between each of those posts is completely dark, giving an eerie feel to this otherwise ordinary sidewalk.
Simply staying within the perimeter of well-lit places will ensure your safety. Otherwise, this would make an excellent setting for a frightening psychological game or the set of a horror film.
Oval Office
In the White House, this is a picture of an empty oval office. The photo was taken in the initial period between the terms of the former president and the new president.
Even though we know the room is usually full, the emptiness of it all has an unnerving effect on us. Only the empty shelves and the door are in this room. Maybe it’s getting ready for the big change that’s coming.
Tick Tock
Imagine coming out of your hotel room and seeing a liquid void like this. What would you do in that situation? Would you flee in the opposite way or take a chance on stepping into this void?
We’d probably flee if we had the option. The liquid that has collected on the hallway floor appears to be strangely suspicious. Is it black tar? Is there a dark cloud descending? We’re not sure, but time is running out, so we’d better hurry!
Rain, Rain, Go Away
We’ve all had those rainy days on the road when we’re driving. The days when, if you turn your windshield wipers off for even a split second, you couldn’t see anything except blinding headlights, and street lights, were long gone.
Those are the kinds of days. This photo is particularly disturbing because, despite the fact that we are all accustomed to rainy days, we can’t help but be bothered by it.
To Infinity and Beyond
This infinity pool has a spooky vibe to it. From the picture, we can all see what is going on. Like the clown from Stephen King’s novel It, it looks as though the moment you jump into the pool, a monster will appear..
After jumping out of the pothole, the clown begins grabbing kids. That’s what comes to mind when we take a look at this pool right here. In this place, you can hear a pin drop or the echoing cries for help or screams of terror.
Empty Superstore
This grocery shop is so deserted that it gives us the creeps. Imagine what it might be like to shop in this store. You never know what you’ll find in the next aisle; you might even run with Cookie Monster in the cookie aisle!
The lighting is really dim and the atmosphere is very quiet. It’s as though there’s a calm before the storm. Please turn around and run for your life if you ever find yourself at one of these grocery stores!
Grandma’s Basement
This online user uploaded a snapshot of their grandma’s basement, which was then met with a flood of comments. This is the kind of basement where a possessed youngster would make a movie, according to one comment.
Another stated that this gave him the impression of an evil facility. We agree with each statement. This basement does have an unsettling aura. Although it is exceedingly neat and spotless, it appears as though an execution has occurred here.
Lights Out
This passageway is well-illuminated. Imagine the following scenario: you’re traveling down this corridor when the lights go out halfway through. You’re all by yourself, and it’s pitch black outside.
We don’t need to explain what you could be feeling because we can all guess what you’re going through. Even with the lights turned on, this place is still scary. This type of hallway would make an excellent setting for a horror film.
International Space Station
The International Space Station at night looks like this. Isn’t it eerie? All of the wires appear to be a muddled mess. This might possibly be a UFO, or unidentified flying object, that aliens used to travel to Earth in. Everything about space – outer space, spaceships, and so forth — is interesting.
Being there, on the other hand, is a very different experience altogether. You’re traveling across space and time; you’re traveling through the universe. Moreover, there’s something a little unnerving about it…
Pool
The sight of a pool that is completely devoid of water is unnerving to some people. Everything is OK as long as there are people swimming through it, as long as there is noise and laughter.
However, we are not as relaxed when there is no one in the pool. The light coming through from above makes these pool tunnels extraordinarily beautiful, but they’re also pretty eerie. Nevertheless, it’s possible that it’s only a psychological issue.
Titanic
Not sure for you, but as we walked down this corridor, we were immediately reminded of the movie Titanic. As romantic as the movie appears to be, this is not the case at all, especially considering there is no other person around.
As they made their way downstairs, the water level continued to rise, according to the person who posted this photo. This genuinely does appear like a sinking ship. The corridor is completely submerged in water, and the lights are flickering.
COVID Test
This is a picture of a waiting area for the COVID-19 examination. The room seems to be really depressing and eerie. Except for a solitary chair for the patient, there is no furniture in the room.
This space exudes a sense of eeriness. There is a distinct absence of decoration in this room, and the wooden wall panels give the impression that something horrible is about to happen.
Aquarium
Restaurants with aquariums are really fascinating. It’s like eating inside the ocean. We can only fathom the amount of thought and effort that goes into these restaurants. Diners are not only offered a delectable meal, but they are also surrounded by beautiful nature.
An empty aquarium restaurant, on the other hand, says differently. Though it depicts the serene side of nature, a deserted restaurant surrounded by water is unsettling. It seems to be deserted and sad.
The Pathway to Hell?
If this rusted, old bridge doesn’t give you the creeps, we’re not sure what would. We’re not sure how you can even walk across this bridge because there don’t appear to be any floor panels, but we’re sure it’s not easy.
We have no idea where this bridge will take us, and we’re perfectly content not to find out for the time being. If you’re thinking about passing through this area, go with extreme caution.
Cage
We often see some sort of psychological experiment being performed on humans in horror movies and shows, and it’s typically quite uncomfortable to see. If we didn’t know any better, we’d think that the place depicted in this picture is where these kinds of tests take place.
There is a slew of factors that play a role in this conclusion. For starters, the word “cage” is painted on the wall in bold letters. “What is going on?” What cage? We have no idea where you are bringing us.
Laundry Room
A picture of the scene from the campus washing room was shared by this user on social media. And, despite the fact that it is entirely real, the view from the window appears to have been animated or edited.
Imagine taking a look outside then you’ll see something like this. You might be a little scared right then. Wow, what a strange and lovely world we live in today!
Orange Sky
Apart from the washing machine and dryer, laundry rooms are frequently dreary and empty. Doing laundry, on the other hand, can be a lot more fun if you have a great view out the window!
It seems that a sandstorm has caused the sky outside this laundry to turn totally orange. In any case, this is not a color that you see very often in the sky. It’s similar to a laundry room on the planet Mars.
Your Turn Will Come
According to the movie Silent, this road appears to be the representation of an entry to a whole new malevolent dimension. During the night, a fog surrounds and engulfs the traffic lights, which are suspended by electrical cords from the sky.
A puddle of water appears to be filling the school corridor. There was only a small amount of water, barely enough to splash around in. Because of the dim light, it’s difficult to see down the hallway.
Exam Jitters
With the exception of the OP’s vehicle, there are no other vehicles present. The fact that we may never know where this trip will take us is a strong possibility.
It has the look of an abandoned school where evil spirits have taken control, and the next person who passes down the hallway becomes possessed by the evil spirits. It turns out, that’s not a horrible setting for a horror film after all.
Blissful or Terrifying?
When you look at this picture, it reminds you of the Windows screensaver that we all used to use back in the day. But we had no idea such a lovely, or should we say animated, the setting could exist in the real world until we visited the place.
It’s truly so flawless that it’s almost a bit scary to look at. Whether you think we’re crazy, but it really does remind us of the beginning of a horror film… Before all of the terrifying things begin to happen, everything appears to be blissfully perfect.
Blue Lights
Blue lights are quite scary. Yes, they are a good complement to other lights, but when they are used alone, with no other light to complement them, the effect is really unnerving. Just take a look at this laundry area, for example.
The laundry room appears to be a set from a horror film due to the use of blue lighting in this area. It appears to have been taken over by a horde of wicked spirits of the worst kind. Beware!
Foggy Drive
When you’re the only one wrapped in it, fog may be rather beautiful. It has a completely mysterious and spooky feel to it. Perhaps it’s because of all the movies and shows we’ve seen where the monster or spirit always comes from the fog.
This user shared a photo of their trip to the airport, which took them down a lengthy and twisting road that appeared to be uninhabited. The combination of the vacant road, warm lighting, and fog create a spooky atmosphere.
Deserted in the Desert
This is actually rather beautiful. A faint silhouette of a mountain may be seen in the distance, behind the dust. This could be the ideal location for a desert photo session!
Imagine being stranded here… by yourself. At that time, all of these lovely elements will combine to create your worst nightmare. If you think about it, this is essentially a beautiful trap.
Liminal Artist
You might be wondering why so many of the places on this list are flooded, and while we don’t have an answer, we can tell you that liminal space is a place of transition, waiting, and uncertainty.
Perhaps this is why the artist in this hallway created so many three-dimensional works. They intended to highlight liminal areas, which are both uncomfortable and beautiful.
Exit
This user shared a photo from their phone that was a few years old. It seems to be the haunted room at a hospital where all the wicked and horrible things occur. Only the ‘Exit’ sign is highlighted by the single ceiling light.
The walls surrounding the entrance are painted a mustard hue, while the door itself is painted in the color of mahogany wood. To summarize, this picture gives us the heeby-jeebies.
Early Morning Train
It is possible to find areas that are constantly crowded with people, which implies that there is a great deal of bustle and noise. When you take the noise out of the equation, it becomes downright terrifying.
One such place is a railway station. This user shared a photo of a train station in the early morning hours. There’s a lot of fog, but no one is around. Being alone there might be a little unsettling.
Reflection
This seems to be from a science fiction film or series. Both doors are identical in every way. What’s more disconcerting is that both doors lead to identical but very vacant rooms. Actually, that’s not true.
They aren’t identical, but rather a mirror image of one another. Everything in these rooms is identical, from the carpet to the light and even the placement of the outlet. It’s the same as flipping the camera on your phone.
’90s Macintosh Game
What you’re looking at right now is the dimly lit living room of a Macintosh computer game from the 1990s. The entire set-up is reminiscent of a horror film, such as The Conjuring, in its simplicity.
We do not recommend seeing that film if you are easily scared. In any case, as fascinating as it is to see a retro game like this one, we have to say that when we first saw this photo, it made our skin crawl.
Let the Lights Guide You
The beauty of the night is brought to life by the illumination of the streets. When the lights are on, it’s a wonderful sight to behold in the darkness of the night. The street lights on a road are depicted in this picture.
While it is a wonderful sight to behold, the road is curved, making it impossible to see the entire distance ahead. Without a doubt, we wouldn’t travel down this road alone. Who knows what might be waiting for us at the end of the road.
Dream City
There’s little doubt about it: this is the city you see in your most gloomy of dreams. Not only is the placement of the buildings alarming, but the fact that they are identical to one another is as well.
There’s something eerie about seeing so many interchangeable buildings in various degrees of orange and red all at the same time. We have no desire to visit this place, no matter where it is.
Close Call
Was anyone else reminded of the movie Beetlejuice after looking at this picture? We’re talking about the scene in which Adam (Alec Baldwin) tries to flee from what was once his home and ends himself in the desert of the sandworms.
Fortunately, his wife, Barbara (Geena Davis), intervenes just in time to save him from being devoured by a big sandworm. This eerie location serves as the real-life counterpart to that scene.
